Rental Income

The United Kingdom is experiencing a housing crisis.
UK Government figures show that the number of households
in temporary accommodation in England is at a record high.

THE PROBLEM

The United Kingdom is currently facing a severe housing shortage. Government statistics reveal that the number of households in temporary accommodation in England has reached an unprecedented high, with 104,510 households living in such conditions. This marks a 10% increase from the previous year. Moreover, the number of households seeking assistance from their local council to prevent homelessness or to find a way out of it rose by 5.7% to 83,240. These figures underline the urgent need for more privately owned rental housing.

The UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) reports that long-term immigration was approximately 1.2 million people in 2022, while emigration accounted for 557,000, resulting in a net migration increase of 606,000 people. This continued influx adds further pressure on housing resources, intensifying the need for additional rental accommodations.

THE REASON

The total number of households approaching their local council for help to either prevent them from becoming homeless, or to help them out of homelessness increased by 5.7% to 83,240 households. These figures are a record high and highlight the need for additional privately owned rental housing.

Additionally, the UK ONS* state that total long-term immigration was estimated at around 1.2 million people in 2022, emigration was 557,000, which means migration continues to add to the population with net migration for 2022 at 606,000 people.

When individuals or families face homelessness, local councils are legally obligated to intervene and help secure accommodation, often turning to the private rental sector to address these shortages.
