Local Housing Allowance (LHA)

It is a means-tested benefit designed to assist people with low incomes in paying for rented accommodation, supported by various acts of parliament and constituting a significant portion of the Department for Work and Pensions’ budget.

- available to all those who are treated as liable to pay rent, have permanent right to reside in the UK and pass the habitual residence test.
